John Wilber Carroll, 80, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Midway, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, in Hospice of the Valley, Tempe, Ariz.

He was born August 10, 1933, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late James J. and Agnes B. McCarthy Carroll.

Mr. Carroll served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955.

He worked as a loan officer for Mellon Bank for 21 years, and after retiring from there, worked 12 years for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Welfare Department, before retiring in 2000.

Mr. Carroll enjoyed cutting grass with his lawn tractor and working part-time for Avis Rental at Greater Pittsburgh Airport.

On December 12, 1959, he married Marlene B. Brockman, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Kelly Rossi of Scottsdale and Leann (Jeffrey) Steele of Denver, Colo.; a son, Thomas (Christa) Carroll of Midway; a brother, Roy Carroll of Green Tree; and six grandchildren, Alan Rossi, Sean and Allison Steele, Emma Smith, Rachel and Sydney Carroll.

Deceased are five brothers, Howard, Russell, Richard, Eugene and Jack Carroll, and a sister, Joyce McCarthy.

Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 E. Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 30, with the Rev. Cathy Peternel officiating. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
