Charleroi council is expected to adopt a 2014 budget in the upcoming week, a spending plan that does not include a local real estate tax increase.

The tentative $1.8 million balanced budget holds the millage rate at 42.61 mills, borough Manager Donn Henderson said.

He said the borough has managed to keep costs down by not replacing a few administrative jobs that became vacant.

The budget directs $626,800 to the police department, with wages there set at $515.000, the record indicates. The street department is earmarked $549,300.

Council is expected to act on the budget when it meets at 6 p.m. Thursday in the borough building.
