Many e-readers will be given as gifts this holiday season. The recipients will range from technology novices to technology experts. Regardless of where you may fall in that range, the public libraries of Greene County are available to help.
Eva K. Bowlby Library in Waynesburg and Flenniken Public Library in Carmichaels can help you learn to use your new e-readers. Staff can answer questions and share their knowledge with you. For those patrons who already know how to use the devices, the libraries can help you to get more out of them. Greene County libraries currently offer e-book databases that work for any patron with a valid, in good-standing library card.
The libraries in Greene County offer Overdrive through the Washington Library District: http://waggin.lib.overdrive.com. Overdrive also includes an audiobook selection. Patrons can borrow a maximum of five titles at once. At the end of the loan period, the title will disappear from your device. There is no need to worry about an item being overdue and there are no late fees.
The Greene County Library System also supplies “Freading” for the residents of Greene County: http://greenecolib.freading.com. “Freading” works on a token system. Each patron gets six tokens per week and each book is worth a set amount of tokens. There are no waiting lists for these books. You can renew books with “Freading” or as with Overdrive, the titles will disappear at the end of the loan period.
If you find yourself giving or receiving an e-reader this holiday season, perhaps you may want to see what the libraries have to offer. All of these services are completely free to patrons and you can download titles from anywhere with an Internet connection. The only thing you need is a library card.
