Judge delays trial on Heinz Field seats lawsuit

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A county judge has delayed ta trial so the Pittsburgh Steelers and the taxpayer-funded city-county Sports & Exhibition Authority can continue trying to settle litigation over who must pay most of the estimated $30 million cost to add 3,000 seats to Heinz Field.
Wednesday’s trial has been pushed back until Jan. 27 by Allegheny County Senior Judge Joseph James.
Mark Hart, the Steelers director of planning and development, says the postponement was requested so the parties could keep negotiating.
Authority attorney Walter DeForest says, “All I can say is we’re still talking.”
The dispute centers over lease language and whether the added seats qualify as a “capital improvement” that should be paid for by the authority, or a “modification” for which the Steelers must pay.
