William H. Weir
Former teacher, coach, athletic director
William H. Weir, 90, of McDonald, died Monday, December 2, 2013, in St. Clair Hospital
He was born November 23, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late William and Marie Hahn Weir.
Mr. Weir was a teacher and football coach at South Fayette High School for nearly two decades, and was proud to lead the 1964 team to a WPIAL championship. He retired as athletic director for West Jefferson Hills School District, and was a member of Irons Memorial Church of McDonald.
He was a highly decorated World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Mr. Weir was an avid golfer who achieved eight holes-in-one, and was a long-time starter at Quicksilver Golf Course.
Surviving is his loving wife of 68 years, Peggy-Ann Martin Weir; two sons, William (Louise) Weir III of Murrysville and Doug (Deb) Weir of Venetia; grandchildren Megan Levan, Martin Weir, Ben Weir, Morgan Evans and Kaitlyn Washko; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Thomas-Little Funeral Service Inc., 314 West Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, 724-926-2800, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 7. Interment will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery.
