Avid collector of seashells
Shirley “MeMaw” Faye Yarnell Martin, of Waynesburg, Greene County, passed away peacefully Friday evening, December 20, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 26, 1940, in Connellsville, Fayette County, a daughter of the late George Sylvester Yarnell and Evelyn Foster Yarnell Reynolds.
On September 9, 1972, she married James Owen Martin, who survives, a son of John Lee Martin and Bertha Pearl Wood Martin .
Also surviving are three daughters, Amber Kaye Busch of New Stanton, Jamie Martin Munn and Jennifer Martin Adamson, both of Waynesburg; a sister, Roberta Kaye Reynolds Howard (Paul) of Waynesburg; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Nelson (Bussie) Yarnell, Charles (Chuck) Yarnell and Robert (Ray Ray) Reynolds.
Mrs. Martin attended Jefferson-Morgan High School. For many years, she provided day care in her home to many residents of the Waynesburg area.
She was a devout Christian with a very deep commitment to her Lord and Savior. She loved being by the ocean and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid collector of seashells and rocks from the beach, which she would place in flower gardens around her home, where she spent many hours a day. She was a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and her all-time-favorite football player was Terry Bradshaw.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 29, in Faith Baptist Church, Lippencott.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to hospice.
