A state police fire marshal traced the cause of a house fire in Donora last Sunday to the building’s stove and said it was accidental. Gelinda D. “Mio” Giles was found dead inside the home at 1323 Fayette Ave., and one borough police officer was injured trying to rescue her.
Washington County Coroner Tim Warco said the woman’s body was found on the second floor of the home. An autopsy is pending.
Giles, who worked for nearly two decades as a Ringgold School District bus driver, was pronounced dead at the fire scene at 4:20 a.m., Warco said.
The fire marshal’s office said Donora Officer William Dennison was treated at a local hospital after he suffered a shoulder injury while trying to get inside the house.
Damages to the house were estimated at $50,000.
