This is in reference to the letter by Jaret Romano, “Myth about minimum wage,” which appeared in the Sunday edition.

This area of the country and, specifically, Canonsburg, was built and had its best times economically thanks to union workers, union jobs and a wage where you could own a new home and live a good life. Maybe Romano doesn’t have to live on the minimum wage and raise a family on it. Working for a decent wage gives employees some pride and self respect.

I would guess that somewhere in Romano’s background, a union and a good wage made life easier for his family.
