Two men working at the MarkWest Energy plant on Route 519 in Chartiers Township were injured Friday afternoon when they were struck by a pipe while working in a ditch on the property.

Township police Sgt. Steven Popeck said the men were working on a pipeline in a ditch that was about 10 feet deep when they were both struck in the hip area by the pipe.

Township fire Chief Vince Altieri said one of the men was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh from a landing zone at Western Area Career and Technology Center following the incident, which was reported about 1:15 p.m. The other was taken to a local hospital. Assisting at the landing zone were Houston firefighters and crews from Canonsburg and Fort Cherry ambulance services.
