Atlanta-based actor Brad Sherrill is bringing his multimedia performance of “Red Letter Jesus” to Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church on March 1.
“Red Letter Jesus” is based on Jesus’ words spoken in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke. It had its theatrical premiere in 2012 at the Theatre in the Square in Atlanta. Last year, the production enjoyed a six-week run at Provision Theater in Chicago. Sherrill is now on a U.S. tour of churches.
“Red Letter Jesus” includes an original visual presentation from Israel and Jordan that was created by Sherrill’s collaborator and multimedia designer Mark Hickman.
Sherrill, a 24-year member of the Georgia Shakespeare theater company in Atlanta, previously spent five months memorizing all 20,000 words of “The Gospel of John,” with plans to present it just once at his home church.
But since 2001, he has performed “The Gospel of John” more than 600 times, including a six-week run off-Broadway at New York City’s Lamb’s Theatre and at theaters in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Toronto and Atlanta.
Sherrill’s European tour included performances in historic cathedral’s, such as the United Kingdom, Ireland and Northern Ireland, including Westminster Cathedral in London, Lincoln and Gloucester cathedrals in the U.K., Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral in Cork and St. Peter’s Cathedral in Belfast.
Seating for “Red Letter Jesus” begins at 6:15 p.m., and the performance will begin at 7. Seating is limited, so reservations are suggested. For ticket information, call the church at 724-356-4424.
A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the restoration and additions to the church’s historic pipe organ by the Allegheny Organ Co., and is the second half of a rebuild started in 1996.
