The Washington County Farm Bureau recently received an award from the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau for its efforts in the Harvest for All campaign.
Washington County was the top donor county for 2013, with 12,700 pounds of food given to the Greater Washington County Food Bank. The group received two $100 gift cards.
According to the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau website, one in six people nationwide is either “food insecure” or at risk of hunger.
“That continued need is why we decided to take our prizes from the state and offer them as incentives to all of our nonprofit collection sites for our annual food drive,” said George Wheery, WCFB president. “We hope that the prize money will be a stimulant within our community. Anyone donating food will be helping the hungry and potentially their favorite nonprofit as well.”
The farm bureau’s food drive begins Feb. 1.
