The library is selling chances on a $3,500 raffle ticket, “Independence Day Dollars.” The ticket plays on the first official evening drawing July 4 of the Pennsylvania daily number. Donation is $5. Call the library for more information.

One Book, Every Young Child Program will be held at 5:30 p.m. June 18. The program highlights the importance of early literacy development in 3- to 6-year-olds. The title of this year’s program is “Stripes of All Types,” written and illustrated by Susan Stockdale. The story explores how animals around the world benefit from their stripes. The first 30 children in attendance will receive a free copy of the book. Call or stop by the library to register.

Spring book sale will be held Monday through June 14 at the gazebo. Many used books recently withdrawn from the library’s shelves will be available.
Tiny Tim Tomato Project for 2- to 8-year-olds will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Master Gardener Bob Bedison will guide youngsters on planting and growing their own healthy tomato plant. There also will be stories and crafts about gardening. Call the library to register.
Family Literacy and Children’s departments will present a three-part series for children and their families on personal and home safety. Sessions will be held from 10 a.m. to noon as follows:
• “Keep Me Safe from Fire,” Saturday. Center Township Fire Department will teach families about fire safety and bring Sparky. The Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department will bring a fire engine.
• “Keep Me Safe from Danger,” June 14. The American Red Cross will explain emergency preparedness for preschool and younger elementary children. A Zombie Apocalypse Party designed to teach older elementary and middle school students how to be prepared for emergency situations will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.
• “Keep Me Safe and Protected,” June 21.

Bowlby Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. June 9. “Hope Unseen” by Smiley & Crandall will be discussed.

Summer Reading Kick-Off Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 28 on the lawn. The theme is “Fizz, Boom, Read!” In conjunction with the reading clubs, the Family Literacy Department is enrolling children in its “Fizz, Boom, Learn!” to keep math and science skills sharp during the summer. Community Action Southwest is collaborating with the library to offer six workshops on job development. A workshop will be offered every other month. The first workshop, “Barriers to Gaining Employment,” will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. June 16. The library will provide educational activities for children accompanying their parents to the workshop.

Reading Challenge for 6- to 12-year-olds will begin June 16. Those who participate will earn prizes for pages read and receive raffle tickets to enter a drawing to win a Kindle Fire.
