Florida firm denies link to UPMC data breach

PITTSBURGH (AP) – An executive with a Florida payroll processing firm is denying the company has anything to do with a data breach affecting as many as 27,000 employees at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Mitchell Dauerman said he doesn’t believe UPMC or any of its subsidiaries are clients of Ultimate Software Group Inc. of Weston, Florida.
The company and UPMC are targeted in class-action lawsuit brought by a UPMC employee on behalf of workers whose personal information may have been accessed by hackers. That information has been used to file bogus federal tax returns based on the information from nearly 800 employees.
The lawsuit wants UPMC and whoever handles its payroll to provide credit monitoring and restoration services and identity theft insurance to the affected employees.
