The Monongahela police chief said that one investigation into alleged drug activity at one home led to the arrest of a second man also suspected of dealing heroin.
Gordon Clendenen Jr., 48, of 786 E. Main St., was taken into custody Thursday at his home by members of the Washington County District Attorney’s Drug Task force along with city police.
Police Chief Brian Tempest said task force detectives had the home of Cary Radabaugh, 41, of 769 E. Railroad St., under surveillance since launching an investigation into suspected drug activity last month. Radabaugh was arrested by task force detecvies and city police on drug charges during a traffic stop Saturday in Carroll Township.
“While watching Radabaugh, they started noticing similar activity at Clendenen’s house,” Tempest said. “There is 50 feet and railroad tracks separating the two houses.”
Clendenen reportedly sold heroin to an undercover detective on two occasions. The undercover officer purchased 10 stamp bags on occasion and eight in the second buy. Tempest said the price for each stamp bag was about $15. The heroin field-tested positive and was sent to the state police crime laboratory.
Clendenen was picked up at his home. As he was being led away, he reportedly told investigators he did not understand why he was being arrested.
“He told them he is just a user,” Tempest said.
Clendenen was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson on two counts each of possession and possession with intent to deliver heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in Washington County jail on $100,000 bond.
