Joseph Ethan Talarico, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes Sunday, August 17, 2023. He was only 21 years old.

Our family is devastated and shocked by this loss. Joey was born November 28, 2001, in Pittsburgh, to parents James and Sara Talarico.

Joey graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in June of 2020. During his time at Mt. Lebanon, Joey was a member of the rowing team and played the violin in the orchestra. He developed a love of reading over the years and could always be found with a book nearby – most often about world history.

After graduating high school, Joey attended Mercyhurst University in Erie, where he had a double major in Intelligence Studies and International Relations, and a minor in Arabic and Islamic Studies. Joey’s hard work resulted in his selection for an internship with the Department of State, which was set to begin his senior year.

In addition to his studies at Mercyhurst, Joey’s other activities included participating in the rowing team, editing the school newspaper, working at the campus bookstore and taking on the Treasury Secretary role for both the Competitive Intelligence and National Security Clubs. It was also at Mercyhurst that Joey met his girlfriend, Tabea Wieland. It brought great happiness to his family that Joey got to spend his final summer with Tabea and her family in Germany, where they traveled to Vienna, Rome and Amsterdam, among others.

Joey was predeceased by his father, James F. Talarico; his grandfathers, William Buszinski and James J. Talarico; and uncle, Bernard Coski.

He is survived by his mother, Sara; his brothers, Cameron and Joshua; his sister, Hannah; his grandmothers, Patricia Buszinski and Frances Talarico; his aunts, Marcia Coski, Carrie Holmes; uncles and aunts, William and Maria Buszinski, and Thomas and Kristi Talarico. Joey is also survived by his cousins, Ronn, Dylan, Jaden and Nathan; and his dogs, Chloe, Mowgli and Julie.

Friends and Family are welcome in Beinhauer, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray 724-941-3211, from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 1. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 2, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1066 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228. Interment will follow at the Woodruff Memorial Park, 2095 Washington Road, Canonsburg, PA 15317.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made to Animal Friends, an organization important to Joey’s love of animals growing up. Donate at Thinkingoutsidethecage.org.
