California routs Mapletown, 58-0
MAPLETOWN — Spencer Petrucci rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns, and California scored two defensive touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a 58-0 thumping of Mapletown in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game Friday night.
Petrucci scored on runs of 40, 32 and 30 yards to help California (3-0, 5-1) build a 46-0 halftime lead.
Jake Layhue returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and Lee Qualk ran 10 yards with a fumble for another score. Layhue also had a 2-yard TD run and Qualk added a 13-yard touchdown run.
Zack Geletei had a 15-yard scoring run and Logan Hartley capped the scoring with a 5-yard TD in the fouth quarter.
California’s defense dominated injury-decimated Mapletown (0-3, 2-4) from start to finish. The Trojans outgained the Maples 318-31 and held Mapletown to only one first down.
