Patrick J. Vadella
Patrick J. Vadella, 96, of Elco, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 5, 2023. A son of the late Joseph and Carmella Cimino Vadella, he was born July 19, 1927, in Belle Vernon.
A U.S. Army Sergeant World War II veteran, Patrick graduated from Belle Vernon High School, where he played football on the 1943 undefeated football team. He was a former member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Roscoe, and a member of the Roscoe American Legion Post 801.
Patrick worked for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel for 40 years, retiring in 1984 and then as a consultant for two years. He was also a former councilman in Elco and received the 2005 Citizen of the Year award. He loved fishing and betting on horses.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald Vadella of Elco, Anthony and Sally Vadella of Midlothian, Va., Thomas and Tammy Vadella of Roscoe; eight grandchildren, Brandon (Shandra) Vadella, Hunter Vadella, Tiffany (Dustin) Griffith, Aleshia (Blake) Eiwen, Emerald Vadella, Justin Vadella, Jordon (Jordan) Powell, and Jessee Vadella; and nine great-grandchildren, Alaine, Arianna, Grayson, Avianna, Sophia, Lachlan, Ellianna, Karsyn and Wilder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Cora Bane Vadella July 15, 2022; a son, Patrick Vadella; a daughter-in-law, Holly Vadella; his brothers, Joseph Vadella, and Fred, Anthony Frank and Ralph Matrozzo; and sisters, Angie Cherock and Fortunata Toth.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, November 9, in the Ferguson Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 700 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon (724-929-5300). www.FergusonFuneralHomeandCrematory.com, where a blessing will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 10, with Father Efrin Ambre officiating.
