Girl Scout Troop aids international relief fund
Girl Scout Troop #80012 of Greene County, along with Leader Lainey White Duncan and the girls’ mothers recently packed 50 shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse International Relief, an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid organization that provides help to people in need as a key part of its missionary work.
Each shoebox contained 20-25 items including school supplies, hygiene items, hair accessories and toys. The girls included a personal letter and a card with the hope the recipient will write back.
The shoeboxes are shipped all over the world and may be the only gift the child receives. Millions of children around the world are impacted by these simple gifts.
Organizations, businesses or individuals are invited to pack shoeboxes, and take them to a local location during the national collection week, which runs from Nov. 13-20.
The Greene County drop-off location is First Church of the Nazarene, 115 Deerfield Lane, Waynesburg.
In Washington County, a number of places are accepting shoeboxes, including: South Franklin Community Building, 100 Municipal Road, Washington; The Bible Chapel, 300 Gallery Drive, McMurray; McDonald Presbyterian Church, 202 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald; Crossroads Ministries, 81 Walter Long Road, Finleyville.
