The student who owns the AR-15 magazine bag found in a classroom at California High School Wednesday, prompting a school lockdown, has been identified.

California Area School District Superintendent Dr. Laura Jacob said the student came forward Thursday morning and acknowledged owning the bag.

In a letter sent to parents Thursday, Jacob said the student “stated they did not intend harm or panic from yesterday’s events.”

Administrators at California High School imposed safety measures at the high school Thursday, a day after a teacher noticed the bag on her classroom floor.

Students remained in lockdown after the bag was found, while California Borough Police and administrators investigated.

There was no magazine, ammunition or gun in the bag. Nothing else was found during the search.

On Thursday, students were required to use the same entrance and had their bags searched as they arrived for classes.

Additional police officers were on campus Thursday morning.

Jacob said no other details of the incident will be shared because of confidentiality, but assured parents that “the administration and law enforcement have handled the situation.”

The school district has a weapons policy.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding with the lockdown (Wednesday) and the bag checks this morning with all the students. We will continue to act with caution based on the facts we have at the time,” she wrote. “Student safety remains our No. 1 priority and we appreciate all of your support, cooperation, and understanding as we implement appropriate protocol.”
