A Rostraver woman was sentenced to 30 months in prison Friday after being convicted in federal court on charges of wire fraud.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, in September 2016 Patty Lynn Mavrakis, 65, stole nearly $400,000 from the Valley 1st Community Federal Credit Union, where she was branch manager.
Mavrakis intentionally set a fire in the safe in an attempt to conceal the theft. According to the DOJ, she then made a fraudulent insurance claim on behalf of the credit union. She also made false statements to law enforcement investigating the fire and theft.
Mavrakis gambled with the stolen money and lost about four times her annual salary, according to the DOJ.
She will also serve a year of supervised release after her prison sentence concludes.
