Boys basketball: Mapletown rallies for road win

Mapletown scored 44 points in the second half and overcame a halftime deficit to beat host Geibel Catholic 70-66 in Class A Section 2 Wednesday night.

Roger Gradek scored 17 points to lead the Maples (1-2, 2-8), who trailed 30-26 at halftime and 51-49 after three quarters. Mapletown outscored Geibel 21-15 in the pivotal fourth quarter.

Lucas Stevenson scored 13 points for Mapletown.

Geibel’s Tommy Kolencule scored a game-high 20 points and Gary Tarbul added 12.

South Fayette 60, Mars 58

Gavin Orosz scored 19 points, Michael Plasko added 17 and South Fayette held off host Mars 60-58 in a key Class 5A Section 4 game.

South Fayette improves to 2-1 in the section and 6-6 overall. Mars also is 2-1 in section and the Planets are 7-5 overall.

The Lions led 32-27 at halftime and 49-43 after three quarters.

Ryan Ceh led three Mars players in double figures with 15 points.
