High school basketball: Hathaway leads way for Trinity

Kaden Hathaway led four Trinity players in double figures with 25 points, sparking the Hillers to a 70-49 win over host Ringgold in a Class 5A Section 1 boys basketball game Wednesday night.
Jonah Williamson followed Hathaway in the scoring column with 18 points as Trinity improved to 2-3 in the section and climbed to the .500 mark overall at 7-7. Jacob Dunkle tossed in 12 points and Dante DeRubbo had 11 for the Hillers, who led 22-9 after one quarter and 34-20 at halftime.
Ringgold (1-4, 4-11) closed to within 49-38 after three quarters but Trinity held a 21-11 edge in the final period.
Daryl Tolliver scored 14 points for the Rams.
Chartiers-Houston 57, Carmichaels 46
Nate Gregory scored 18 points and Chartiers-Houston forged a double-digit halftime lead and went on to a 57-46 win over visiting Carmichaels in Class 2A Section 4.
Avery Molek scored 14 points and Jack Lochran tossed in 10 for the Bucs, who improved to 3-3 in the section and 10-5 overall. C-H led 29-19 at halftime.
Colin Andrews scored a game-high 20 points, which included four three-pointers, for Carmichaels (0-5, 3-10). Aydan Adamson contributed 14 points.
C-H will host Burgettstown in a key section game Friday.
West Greene 52, Mapletown 39
Lane Allison scored 17 points and West Greene played a strong defensive second half to beat visiting Mapletown 52-39 in Class A Section 2.
The win improves West Greene’s record to 3-1 in the section and 8-5 overall. The Pioneers led 29-27 at halftime and then held Mapletown (1-3, 2-9) to 12 points in the second half.
Patrick Durbin scored 12 points and Parker Burns had 10 for West Greene, which does not have a senior on its roster.
Mapletown was led by Roger Gradek’s 12 points.
Monessen 76, California 34:
The Greyhounds had a 26-point lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back in a 76-34 triumph in Class A Section 2 play at Monessen.
The Greyhounds (4-0, 10-1) had a 50-22 advantage at halftime, and led, 63-30, heading into the fourth. Monessen outscored California, 13-4, in the final period.
The Greyhounds’ Lorenzo Gardner scored a game-high 22 points. Teammate Rodney Johnson had 17. Tyvaughn Kershaw and Devontae Robinson scored 12 points apiece.
Caden Monticelli led the Trojans (3-2, 3-11) in scoring with 15.
Girls results
Monessen 58, Avella 14
The Greyhounds’ defense was too much for the Eagles in a 58-14 triumph in a Class A Section 2 matchup at Monessen.
Monessen (4-0, 8-3) had a 20-5 lead after the first quarter and a 36-11 halftime advantage. The Greyhounds held the Eagles to three points in the second half.
Monessen’s Hailey Johnson had a game-high 15 points. MyAsia Majors added 12 for the home team.
Avella’s Ava Frank scored five points.
In other games
Elizabeth Forward rolled to a 65-9 win over Ringgold in Class 4A Section 3 girls contest. West Greene was a 40-23 winner over Mapletown in a Class A Section 2 girls game.
