Greene man accused of sexual assault of child

A Greene County man is accused of sexually assaulting a child in 2019.
State police charged John Franklin Thompson, 81, of Morris Township, with felonies of rape of a child, indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault.
According to the criminal complaint, in October 2022, police interviewed a witness who saw Thompson inappropriately touching the child, then 11, at his Morris Township home. The witness left with the child, but did not report the incident.
In an interview with investigators, the child claimed other relatives had said not to tell anyone about Thompson’s behavior.
In a separate interview, the child disclosed that Thompson had raped them, court documents state.
Thompson was charged Feb. 22 and arraigned before District Judge David Balint, who released him on $250,000 unsecured bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. March 7.
