A firefighter sustained a minor injury battling a house fire in the 200 block of Munce Ridge Road in South Strabane Township Saturday.
The fire was first reported about 1:30 a.m., with heavy smoke in the structure and fire in the walls. The fire was ultimately contained to the building’s second story and a kitchen on the first floor.
Jordan Cramer, South Strabane’s fire chief, said firefighters had to overcome several challenges fighting the blaze, including a long driveway that made access difficult, the water supply and strong winds.
The owner of the dwelling was able to get out before firefighters arrived. The injured firefighter was treated and released from WHS Washington Hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
South Strabane’s fire department received assistance from fire departments from Washington, Bentleyville and Peters, North Strabane, Chartiers, North Franklin and Canton townships.
