Washington County Clerk of Courts Barbara Gibbs has been released from Allegheny General Hospital after being struck by a car Sunday after morning mass while walking in the parking lot of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Richeyville.

Gibbs’ daughter, Laural Ziemba, said her mother had been scheduled for surgery Wednesday on a leg bone, but a second doctor opined that the tibia might heal on its own.

Gibbs, an eight-term officeholder, has worked for Washington County since 1961. The woman operating the vehicle that struck Gibbs and her car has been charged with careless driving.
