Ringgold School District teachers on Tuesday once again rejected an independent fact-finder’s contract proposal, but hope to continue negotiations with district officials.

Union officials representing Ringgold Education Association said the teachers voted unanimously against the contract offer because of the size of proposed salary increases and changes to family health benefits.

An independent fact-finder presented the contract proposal to both sides May 20.

The teachers overwhelmingly rejected the contract during a vote May 29, but were required by state law to vote on the proposal again Tuesday.

The teachers’ union said its members have voted to authorize a strike, but wish to continue negotiating first. Ringgold’s 227 teachers have been working without a contract since August.
