Hearing waived in ‘plate of food’ murder case

INDIANA (AP) – A Western Pennsylvania man has waived a preliminary hearing in the shooting death of a friend that authorities said was over a plate of food.
Fifty-nine-year-old James Buterbaugh if charged in Indiana County with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and reckless endangering in the Memorial Day weekend slaying of 51-year-old David Ackerson.
Authorities said the two argued after Ackerson brought out two plates of food that the suspect’s mother had given him and the suspect accused him of “mooching.” Police said he left and the victim caught up with him along a nearby gas well road, where the victim was shot.
Attorney Robert Bell of the public defender’s office told the Indiana Gazette that a plea agreement is among the options in the case.
