WAYNESBURG – Franklin Township supervisors approved a motion Monday to solicit bids for the township’s summer paving projects.

The township will pave 10 roads and part of an eleventh this summer. It’s a pretty good-sized list of projects, township supervisor John Higgins said.

The list of the roads expected to be paved include Lantz Street, Lahew Drive, Sixth Street, Marion Drive, Kane Drive, Victoria Drive, Tenth Street, Eleventh Street, Shadow Oaks Lane, Champion Drive and part of Flower Street.

The project will be advertised and bids for the work awarded in August, supervisor Reed Kiger said.

In other business, the supervisors granted conditional approval to plans by Vista Gathering to construct a natural gas compressor station off Hill School House Road. The company will construct the station next to one of its well sites.

To receive final approval, the company must submit to the township the air quality permit and Erosion and Sediment Control General ESCGP-2 permit issued for the site by the state Department of Environmental Protection and the project’s stormwater management plan.

The supervisors voted to vacating several unopened streets or alleys.

One is Center Alley, off Bill George Drive in Morrisville. The closing was requested by Ron Lewis, who owns property on both sides of the paper street.

Two others are Adam Street, off Fairview Street in North Waynesburg, and an unnamed alley off Adam Street. The request was made by Alex Pester. The remaining two streets are South Alley and an unnamed alley, also in North Waynesburg. South Alley was described as being below Fourth Avenue. The request for the closing also was made by Pester.

The proposed closings had been advertised and letters were sent to adjoining property owners. No one attended Monday’s meeting to oppose the closings.

The supervisors also received a request to close Circle Alley in West Waynesburg from John McNay, who owns property on both sides of the paper road. The proposed closing will be advertised and considered for approval at the supervisors’ next meeting.
