Miss Rain Day issues challenge with books
Current Miss Rain Day Stephanie Mitchell issued a challenge to the five contestants vying to replace her this summer: Collect new and gently used books to be donated to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
“Collecting books is just one way that we can help make a child’s stay at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh just a little brighter,” Mitchell said.
She chose Children’s Hospital as the latest recipient of one of her Miss Rain Day’s service projects because she’s seen firsthand how great a hospital for children can be.
“Even though I wasn’t born yet, I heard numerous stories about the great care my Uncle Gregg received from Columbus Children’s Hospital when he was born two months premature,” Mitchell said.
She also recalled sitting outside of her cousin Garrett’s hospital room at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he had cranial surgery and was later treated for a severe asthma attack. “I know that hospitals can be scary places for children, so I am hoping the donated books will provide some comfort and cheer for those seeking care,” she said. “I really enjoy helping children and I’m confident this book drive to help the kids at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh will be a great success.”
Anyone wishing to donate books can drop them off at Community Bank locations at 100 N. Market St., Carmichaels; Greene Plaza at 100 Miller Lane, Waynesburg; or at 30 W. Greene St., Waynesburg.
