WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg University Celebrating the Arts 2014 will present Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” at 7:30 p.m. July 31 through Aug. 2 in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center.
Waynesburg University alumni, current students and community members will come together to perform the classic murder mystery. “The Mousetrap” holds the distinction of being the longest running play in the world, now in its 62nd year in London, England.
“A good murder mystery can still entertain and intrigue audiences today,” said Waynesburg University director and professor of theater Edward L. Powers. “I’ve not directed a murder mystery here as of yet, and I thought this would provide an enjoyable evening at the theater during the summer.”
In “The Mousetrap,” Mollie and Giles Ralston have just opened a country inn outside London, England. They are excited about their weekend guests. However, after all have arrived and a snowstorm has cut them off from the nearest town, one of the guests is killed. A detective arrives convinced that someone in the house is the culprit; an inevitable investigation ensues.
“Theater is for the whole community, and we certainly look forward to three exciting nights of performance,” said Powers.
