A $2.84 million project to mill and resurface Interstate 79 between the Bridgeville interchange and the Campbell’s Run overpass will begin at 9 p.m. today.
Milling and resurfacing work, bridge deck sealing and other work will occur in each direction along the 4.8-mile stretch in Collier, Scott and Robinson townships. The project is funded through the state’s new transportation legislation.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday through Friday nights. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction from 7 to 9 p.m. and again from 5 to 6 a.m. on those same nights.
Traffic also will be reduced to a single lane in each direction from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes those nights from 6 to 10 p.m.
Work will not begin until two hours after any Pirates, Penguins or Steelers home game.
Additional milling and resurfacing work also will be done on the Heidelberg/Collier and Carnegie interchange ramps. Traffic will be detoured for this work. Details will be announced later.
The project is expected to be completed in late September. Lane Construction of Pittsburgh is the prime contractor.
