ERIE (AP) – A woman has died after her car hit a Pennsylvania State Police patrol vehicle that ran a stop sign.

The Erie Times-News reports that 57-year-old Donna Platz of Edinboro died early Saturday morning.

State police say Trooper Frederick Schimp was driving a 2013 Ford Explorer at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday when he ran a stop sign, and Platz’s vehicle struck the car. Platz was pronounced dead at the scene about an hour later by the Erie County Coroner.

Schimp and Trooper Garrett Padasak, a passenger in the Explorer, were cut from the vehicle and taken to UPMC Hamot with moderate injuries. State police say the two were not responding to a call at the time of the crash. Both men are troopers at the Girard barracks.
