Mon Valley couple jailed over Charleroi bar brawl
CHARLEROI – A Mon Valley couple are in custody after turning themselves in to authorities Wednesday to face charges in a Charleroi bar brawl last week that led to five people, including themselves, suffering stab or slash wounds.
Thomas G. Gentry, 30, of 546 Thompson Ave., Donora, is in Washington County jail on $150,000 bond and facing a string of charges he attacked three patrons of MD Bar & Grill with a folding knife about 2 a.m. June 25.
Police allege his girlfriend, Rose Brown, 33, of Belle Vernon, accompanied him into the bar at 731 McKean Ave. during the brawl that followed after they were kicked out for causing a disturbance over Gentry’s claims some customers were flirting with Brown, court records show.
Both were arraigned before District Judge Larry Hopkins, who remanded Brown to the jail on $100,000 bond.
A third suspect in the case, Terry L. Newton Jr., 24, of Charleroi, remained at large Wednesday, facing a charge of aggravated assault. Police said Newton slashed some of the victims with a box cutter after the fight moved outside onto the sidewalk.
None of the injuries suffered in the brawl was life threatening, police said.
Gentry is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, simple assault, having a prohibited offensive weapon, criminal conspiracy and criminal mischief. Brown is charged with obstructing emergency services, disorderly conduct, conspiracy and public drunkenness.
