Screening interviews for program applicants for the Master Gardener program in Washington County will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 by the Penn State Cooperative Extension.

Training will begin in October and covers basic plant and soil science, plant propagation, integrated pest management, pruning and landscape design.

Fee is $250 and includes a comprehensive training manual. Upon completion of the training and the first year’s volunteer hours, $50 will be refunded.

Penn State Master Gardeners volunteer with service agencies and community groups on variety of educational gardening projects, create demonstration gardens, introduce plant science to children, answer gardening questions and write articles and fact sheets.

Applications are available by calling the Washington Cooperative Extension office at 724-228-6881. For more information, call the office and ask for Laura Delach.
