HARRISBURG (AP) – Authorities say that a 15-year-old who is accused of killing his cousin had escaped several days before from the custody of juvenile detention employees.

Dauphin County District Attorney Edward Marsico Jr. said Friday that investigators are trying to figure out how the suspect escaped.

Pennlive.com reports that Marsico said the suspect apparently slipped away after being brought to an interview with child welfare specialists.

Malik Stern-Jones was found dead with a gunshot wound to the neck around 5 a.m. Tuesday in a car in a Harrisburg public housing complex.

The 15-year-old is in custody and has been charged as an adult with criminal homicide. Authorities have not released charging documents in the case.
