California University of Pennsylvania professor Dr. Chad Hanna will lead a spider-hunting hike at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Mingo Creek County Park. Those who participate will capture and identify spiders found in the fields and forests of the park. To reserve a spot, call 724-228-6867.

Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh will hold free star parties at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 and 30 at Mingo Creek County Park Observatory. Oglebay Woodcarvers Guild will host the 35th annual Wood Carving Show and Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 30 and 31 in the Pine Room, Crispin Center, at Oglebay Park.

Jefferson Township Historical Society will hold a 9/11 service at 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Veterans Memorial in Eldersville. If it rains, the service will be held in the White Church. Refreshments will be served afterward at the church.

Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation will offer group hayrides Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 10 through Oct. 25 at Mingo Creek County Park. Friday rides will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.; Oct. 11 rides will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.; and Oct. 18 and 25 rides will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Hayrides last about 50 minutes and can accommodate 25 people. The use of a picnic shelter and fire circle for two hours before or after the ride also are provided. Cost is $50 per hayride. Call the parks and recreation office at 724-228-6867 about scheduling a date and time.

Washington PA Harley Owners Group Chapter 1928 will hold its ninth annual Ride for the Ribbon Sept. 27 at Steel City Harley-Davidson, 1375 Washington Road, Washington. The ride will begin at 11 a.m. and return at 1 p.m. Registration deadline is Sept. 18. Registration also will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. the day of the ride. Rider fee is $20 in advance, $25 the day of the ride. Passenger fee is $15, and nonriders are $5. There will be a buffet-style lunch, Chinese auction and live music.
