Dr. Paul Lam, founder and director of the internationally renowned Tai Chi for Health Institute, will give a Tai Chi talk and demonstration at 7 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave.

In 1975, the Australian family physician began practicing Tai Chi as a way to improve his own arthritis. He has become a world leader in the field of Tai Chi for health improvement

He will be joined by Dr. Jose Ramirez-Del Toro of the Orthopedic Group, who also is the head team physician at California University of Pennsylvania.

Lam and Ramirez-Del Toro will explain why doctors recommend Tai Chi, an ancient, slow and gentle movement practice to promote wellness, aid rehabilitation and prevent falls. They will discuss the relationship of health and wellness practices to quality of life.

Scientific studies show that Tai Chi helps chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart disease and diabetes, and that it also improves balance, prevents falls and reduces stress.
