Late TD lifts Southmoreland over Charleroi

ALVERTON – Tommy Pisula scored on a 4-yard run with 2:58 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift Southmoreland to a 25-24 Interstate Conference victory over Charleroi.

Charleroi (0-1, 0-1) got a 6-yard touchdown run from Brock Shannon, who also scored on an 83-yard kickoff to open the second half that gave the Cougars a 21-12 lead. Sean Cole added a 32-yard field goal late in the third quarter before Southmoreland (1-0, 1-0) mounted a comeback.

Matt Carr, who completed 13 of 24 passes for 248 yards, also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Rashaad Hairston for Charleroi.

Mateo Garner had 115 yards rushing for Southmoreland.
