Area girl helps humane society
Maybe it’s because she has three dogs of her own or maybe it was her swan song to summer vacation, but whatever the reason, 11-year-old Gracie Ivanusic showed what perseverance is all about.
For five to six hours a day, seven days a week for two weeks this month, Gracie, who will be a sixth-grader at Open Door Christian School, stood outside her house on Pyle Road in Jefferson, asking for donations to Greene County Humane Society.
That perseverance paid off in the sum of $117.42 for the shelter, an amount she personally turned over to the Humane Society Monday.
“I just wanted to help out the Humane Society,” she said. “I did it all by myself. No one helped me.”
