Area residents consider bucket lists for 2015
This New Year’s Day, some area folks are hoping for a happier, healthier and more adventurous 2015.
“All I want this year is to be healthy,” said Nancy Teegarden, a resident of Waynesburg. Teegarden was diagnosed a couple of months ago with a condition in which a person’s stomach muscles do not function properly and can interfere with digestion.
“I was diagnosed a couple of months ago with gastroparesis. I spent most of this holiday season in pain and sick,” she said. “Test after test was done, and I’m just tired all of the time.”
Teegarden’s son graduated from high school in June, and she said she hopes to see fewer doctors and spend more time with her husband and son.
“And, hopefully, have a few dollars left after bills to go on a short vacation, even if it’s to a local campground for a weekend,” she added.
Others shopping at Washington Crown Center earlier this week have similar hopes to Teegarden. Stacy Tamulinas of Washington wants everybody to be healthy in the new year and hopes to have nice weather to go camping. But her daughter, Chloe, had an even bigger hope for 2015.
Besides going to the beach, Chloe said she would like to have the grand champion market hog at the Washington County Fair.
The ladies weren’t the only ones hoping to be healthier this year. Val Jarecki of Washington said his wish list consists of working out more and dieting, along with “treating the wife well.”
“(I’d) do a lot of golfing,” he added as he contemplated the coming year. “I’d go down to the ocean, and take care of my two shepherd pups.” Jareki’s two pups are named Luka and Champ.
Waynesburg businessman Jay Hammers wears many hats, and when it comes to bucket lists, his two favorites are his golfing hat and one he wears as an officer with Greene County Hospital Foundation.
The former may not get him a gig as a golf pro, but the second is near and dear to him. Last year, Hammers was president of the foundation board when plans were introduced for a new public recreation center.
Some legal issues kept the project from proceeding in 2014.
“Now, right at the top of what I want to see accomplished in 2015 is the completion of this recreation center that will be a huge benefit to the community,” he said.
Beverly McVay, another shopper, had other things on the brain when asked about her 2015 plans. “(I’d like) to organize my house on a large scale,” she said. “It all needs to be reorganized. Of course, it may take me until next year,” she added with a smile. McVay also said she’d like to travel and see family around the county. Her family resides in Maryland, Indiana and the eastern part of Pennsylvania.
Brandon Wise of Washington is hoping to do something a little bit more adventurous in 2015. “(I’d) go skydiving and go to Ireland,” he said.
David VanPelt, who was visiting Washington County from Ohio, said he just hopes to start his new job and finish school in 2015.
“That’s about it,” he said.
Here’s to you, folks. May the odds be ever in your favor.
