On a recent trip to my hometown of Washington, I was amazed at the number of deer I observed while I was in Washington Cemetery. I can just imagine the damage they must do to the shrubbery, plants and flowers placed on gravesites.

Has anyone suggested live trapping some of these animals to reduce their number?

I would also suggest that qualified local bow hunters be given the opportunity to reduce the deer population through a controlled hunt. Late winter is a great time for such a hunt due to the lack of available food. Also, fewer people visit the cemetery in colder weather.

I’m sure homeowners adjacent to the cemetery also suffer landscape damage. The Department of Natural Resources could very easily set this hunt up, and the meat could go to those in need.
