Burgettstown rallies for first victory

Burgettstown outscored visiting South Side Beaver 17-9 in the fourth quarter and charged from behind to defeat the Rams 69-68 Tuesday night in a non-section game.
The win was the first of the season for the Blue Devils (1-2), who had to withstand a flurry of scoring opportunities by South Side Beaver (2-1) in the closing seconds. After Burgettstown scored with less than 30 seconds remaining to take a 69-68 lead, SSB missed three free throws and two shots in the game’s final 10 seconds.
Logan Triebsch and Hunter Lecker each scored 18 points for Burgettstown. Jarrod John contributed seven points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and freshman Max Shaw scored all of his eight points in the pivotal fourth quarter.
David Wilson had a game-high 25 points for SSB. Jared Conti scored 15 points and Quae Thompson 11.
Waynesburg 76, West Greene 54: Four players scoring in double figures led Waynesburg to a 76-54 victory over visiting West Greene in a non-section game.
Dom Sarra led the way for Waynesburg (2-1) with 16 points, 12 rebounds, nine steals and five assists.
Robbi Miller scored 13 points, Mitch Warmen had 12 points and nine rebounds, and John Zeleny 12 points for the Raiders.
West Greene sophomore Kolton Rush was the game’s leading scorer with 22 points. Bray Jackson had 13 for the Pioneers (0-2).
California 48, Carmichaels 29: Kass Taylor tossed in a game-high 19 points to send California to a 48-29 victory over Carmicahels in a non-section game.
Tray Matthews chipped in with 10 points for Cal, which won its third straight game.
Liam Shea paced Carmichaels (0-2), which was held scoreless in the third quarter, with 10 points.
Peters Township 59, Steel Valley 54: Peters Township sank 12 of 18 free throwsin the fourth quarter to put away Steel Valley, 59-54, in a non-section game.
Nick Valentic led a balanced scoring attack for the Indians (2-1) with 12 points
Dom Keyes scored a game-high 15 points for Steel Valley (1-2) and Brandon Donavan added 10.
Franklin Regional 67, Monessen 54: Todd Summers scored 26 points to lead Franklin Regional to a 67-54 win over Monessen in the Franklin Regional Tournament.
Jaden Altomore had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Monessen (0-3). Justice Rice had 17 points and nine assists.
Girls results
Carmichaels 45, Mapletown 25: Caroline Cree scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to spark Carmichaels to a 45-27 non-section victory over host Mapletown.
Cree’s long-range shooting helped Carmichaels (2-2) race to a 31-16 halftime lead. Moriah Hathaway also reached double figures for the Mikes, scoring 11 points. Madison Bogden led Mapletown (0-3) with 11 points.
South Fayette 51, Moon 38: Jess Antoszewski and Lauren Crites combined for 32 points to spark undefeated South Fayette to a 51-38 win over host Moon.
Antoszewski led the way with 18 points for South Fayette (3-0) and Crites followed with 14. The Lions pulled away after leading by only 23-19 at halftime. Moon fell to 1-2.
Beth-Center 57, West Greene 14: Anna Barton scored a game-high 23 points to lead Beth-Center to a 57-14 victory over West Greene in a non-section game.
Ally Trippy chipped in with 11 points for the Bulldogs (1-0), who led 34-5 at halftime.
Emily Tedrow and Marissa Rode each scored five points for West Greene, which fell to 0-3.
Burgettstown 36, SS Beaver 26: Paige Sherman scored 13 points to power Burgettstown to a 36-26 win over South Side Beaver in a non-section game.
The victory was Burgettstown’s third straight to start the season.
Lex Bhayer paced SSB (0-3) with 10 points.
