WAYNESBURG – A Cameron, W.Va., man was arrested Sunday by Waynesburg Borough police for allegedly breaking into multiple vehicles and removing an iPad from one of them.

Tristan Eugene Weyrick, 19, of 385 Harts Run Road, is charged with theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, loitering and prowling at nighttime and two counts of prohibited acts.

A witness phoned police when she saw Weyrick attempting to open car doors along Bridge Street in the borough. The witness told police Weyrick eventually gained access to a car owned by George Taylor, at 545 Bridge St. and began to rummage through it. She said Weyrick exited the vehicle and could be found walking along Bridge Street smoking a cigarette.

Police located Weyrick who initially denied entering vehicles in the area and while he was being searched police found four small baggies of suspected marijuana and an iPad on Weyrick’s person.

According to the criminal complaint filed before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Lou Dayich, Weyrick told police the iPad belonged to him but based on images stored on the iPad, police transported Weyrick to the residence of Robert Shultz at 325 N. Porter St. Shultz confirmed the iPad was his property and it was removed from his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway behind his residence.

Weyrick is being held in Greene County jail on $7,500 straight cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Jan. 28 before Dayich.
