When you retire, you will suffer from “TTY,” and recognize the calendar becomes very valuable.
“TTY” is simply, “Today, Tomorrow and Yesterday.”
Today is the hardest of the three. From morning until bedtime, you have a lot to accomplish – what to eat for each meal, which household chore will satisfy your mood and wondering whether the mailman will bring something new to read. Though you don’t go out to many places in a given day, you accumulate as many clothes to wash as when you worked. If that is the chore for the day, you will have oodles of extra daylight hours to read, watch television, walk the block or get lost in thought.
Sometimes, it is better to put your thoughts on a new tomorrow, hoping it is better than today. We find satisfaction in thinking of tomorrow as the day when we will feel like a different person. But, unless you are planning a trip, how different can a new day be?
Every tomorrow looks like it could be the same, or better, than today, based on the remembrance of yesterday, when it was today. That was before the tomorrow that gave hope that we would be here to talk about one more yesterday.
