The Washington Symphony Orchestra will perform “Love Hurts” at 8 p.m. Feb. 14 at Trinity High School.

The symphony will present an evening of music that is inspired by love gone wrong. Among its repertoire is Tchaikovsky’s well-known classic, “Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture.”

“There are one or two moments in the Tchaikovsky that are to die for. Everyone knows it when they hear it,” music director Yugo Ikach said. “The more one loves, the more one can be hurt from losing that love.

“From ‘Romeo and Juliet’ to ‘Love Story,’ to the tear-jerking moments of hearing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from the movie ‘The Titanic,’ to finally the foreshadowing of Canio’s possessive love that drives him to murder his adulterous wife and lover in ‘I Pagliacci,’ this program focuses on the stories of great love and loss.”

Violinist Anthony D’Orazio, the winner of the WSO’s Young Artist Competition, will perform during the concert, and the orchestra also will spotlight selected high school students from Washington County in its annual Side-by-Side program.

Tickets can be purchased online at washsym.org, by calling 888-71-TICKETS or at the following locations: Washington Financial branches, Citizens Library and Peters Township Public Library.
