HARRISBURG – Nearly $90,000 in Pennsylvania economic training grants were announced Wednesday for seven Mon Valley companies.
A total of $87,612 in WEDnetPA training grants was awarded to the following companies for fiscal year 2012-13: Conspec Controls Inc., Charleroi; Ductmate Industries, Charleroi; Monongahela Valley Hospital, Monongahela; Perryman Co., California; Progeny Systems Corp., Bentleyville; Rose Plastic USA, California; and Shumar’s Welding and Machine Services, Grindstone, Fayette County.
Created in 1999, WEDnetPA is funded by the Department of Community and Economic Development through the PA First Fund.
WEDnetPA partners provide expert support to help companies assess their training needs, develop training plans and apply for funding. Historically, nearly 90 percent of all state funds allocated to WEDnetPA have gone directly to pay for employee training.
The training grants were announced by State Rep. Peter J. Daley II, D-California.
“Through these grants, individuals can seek out and obtain training they need in today’s manufacturing and technology-based businesses,” Daley said in a news release.
“Workforce development is an important part of growing and expanding not only our local job base, but also in helping to power our local companies to create the jobs of the future, giving them a competitive edge.”
According to Daley, this year’s award is more than double what was received in fiscal year 2011-12, when five companies shared $36,189.
“I believe this is proof positive of the potential that we have right here in the Mon Valley to grow business and industry and fuel the economic revitalization of the commonwealth,” Daley said.
