The Market District Express is expected to open for the ho-ho-ho holidays.
Dick Roberts, spokesman for Giant Eagle, said the company plans to open the Express in December. It is at the corner of Route 19 (Washington Road) and Circle Drive in Peters Township, where the former South Hills Ford once stood.
The 14,000-square-foot Express will be a smaller version of Giant Eagle’s Market District stores. Commonly shopped grocery items, including produce and prepared foods, will be available. The store will have a pharmacy and a cafe at which beer will be served.
A car wash and 16 GetGo gasoline pumps also will be on the site.
Design changes by Giant Eagle caused a lengthy work stoppage this summer, but the project has been going full bore since mid-August and exterior work is far along.
More than 60 jobs are available. Applicants must visit the Market District Express recruiting center in Ace Plaza, 339 Washington Road, Mondays through Saturdays.
The Center for Coalfield Justice will host a community meeting on a proposed deep mine project in Nottingham Township at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the township building.
Patrick Grenter, executive director of the center, said his group will provide an overview of the planned project followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.
The center is a watchdog organization that addresses environmental issues related to fossil fuel extraction.
