PITTSBURGH (AP) — Police have arrested seven environmental activists who blocked a downtown Pittsburgh bank as part of a protest of mountaintop-removal coal mining.

Police spokeswoman Diane Richard says that seven people were arrested at a PNC Bank branch at the U.S. Steel Tower.

Activists blocked the entrance, forcing the branch to close. The activists wore green T-shirts that said “Earth Quaker Action Team.”

Hundreds of environmental activists staged a rally and marched through downtown Pittsburgh on Monday to protest fracking and mountaintop-removal mining amid a call for renewable energy.

The protest was held on the final day of a national conference that provided training to young people on how to fight coal mining, fracking for oil and gas, and climate change.
