The 12 commercial casinos in Pennsylvania, including The Meadows, paid 11,811 permanent employees $439 million in wages, benefits and tips in 2013, according to figures released Tuesday by the American Gaming Association.

About 1,400 employees at the North Strabane Township gaming site were paid about $51 million in payroll and related costs last year.

The jobs statewide were supported by $3.1 billion in gaming revenue, second-highest nationally to Nevada.

The job categories include accounting; hotel management; information systems; technology; software; food and beverage; retail and entertainment.

“Casino gaming has created thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania that pay well above the minimum wage and offer fulfilling careers in a range of professions that extend beyond the casino floor,” said Geoff Freeman, AGA president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

The 12 casinos in 2013 generated $1.4 million in tax revenue, which went to property tax relief, economic development, tourism and local government budgets.
