Northwest Savings Bank will be changing its footprint in South Strabane Township, but it’s not yet certain whether it will be a new footprint or one that has relocated.

Chris Martin, president of the bank’s Southwest Region, said a branch will be built on a vacant lot at the bottom of Murtland Avenue (Route 19), next to AAA Travel Agency. It will be on about one acre and accessed from the roadway leading to Washington Chevrolet.

“We hope to have construction completed by the first quarter of 2015,” Martin estimated. He said he wasn’t sure of the square footage, but the branch will have “all of the modern banking resources, including an ATM that will take deposits.”

That branch may replace the one inside Wal-Mart at Trinity Point … or may not. Martin said the Wal-Mart site “is under review.” If the decision is to close, he said, that venue will remain open until the one on Murtland is ready.

Northwest, based in Warren, was formed in 1897. It has more than 2,000 employees at 165 branches in four states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and New York. Most are in the Keystone State.

There are six Washington County branches: Trinity Point, Washington, Canonsburg, McDonald, Fredericktown and Marianna.

A seventh may be on the way.
